Set in 1959, “The Blackest Pearl: Love on Atlantic Beach” takes readers on a journey through love, anger, happiness, racism, and redemption. This novel is mainly about Black love, focusing on the relationship between 34-year-old Alexandria Apex and Titus Law. His friends called him "Tumbleweed" because he drifted in and out of town like a tumbleweed in a peanut field, breaking hearts along the way. No matter what, Alexandria loved him deeply.
The only thing Alexandria loved more than Tumbleweed was the land parents left her on Atlantic Beach, South Carolina (also called the Black Pearl). With her parents, Maxwell and Florence, now gone, her only brother, Maxwell Jr., wanted to sell the land for the millions it was worth. The white neighbors wanted to buy the land, aiming to build a fancy hotel. Alexandria had to fight harder to hold onto that land than she ever did to hold onto Tumbleweed.
